Build Your Home Gym

Anyone embarking on a regular program of fitness exercises and workouts will have to decide where they will work out and on what equipment. The obvious choice is simply to purchase a membership at a local gym or health club. However, for some people with special considerations like those living in rural areas or people with conditions that make it difficult to leave home, perhaps the best way to access the benefits of regular workouts would be to simply invest in a home gym instead. In a perfect world everyone would belong to a gym and have their own equipment at home, but for most people that is neither realistic, nor very affordable. Each option has its advantages and disadvantages, but the main advantages of a home gym are obviously cost and convenience

Setting up your own gym equipment and working out at home is very convenient because there’s no time wasted traveling to and from the gym and you don’t have to get dressed or deal with a crowd. However, the biggest benefit of a home gym is that it doesn’t cost a fortune to get an effective workout at home because there is a ton of very affordable fitness equipment on the market right now that is fun to use and requires minimal space to set up. The easiest and more affordable way to get started is to purchase one piece of equipment at a time, instead of purchasing everything you want at once. Once you have a few pieces of quality exercise equipment you can use that same equipment for years and allows you to slowly build your home gym as you go along. You can set up a basic home gym for around $150 if you shop wisely and start out with just a simple bench, barbell, dumbbells and maybe a few free weights. Choose equipment that is versatile and will fit into a 10-foot by 10-foot area that will allow you enough space to perform basic athletic drills and exercises. You don’t need every piece of equipment to get started and you can add more weights, mats, and small exercise machines later as you progress.

Consider purchasing individual free weights or a condensed set that expands to multiple weights for your strength and cardiovascular workouts. Suspension straps are another affordable addition that can make a variety of different exercises easier or more challenging depending on your level of strength and fitness. Resistance tubing is very affordable and is useful for duplicating many of the exercises normally performed on machines at the gym and low-cost exercise balls will allow you to perform strength, balance and core exercises. A simple item everyone can afford like a jump rope can get your heart pumping and improve your athleticism at the same time. If you shop wisely, having your own home gym at home can actually be less expensive than working out at a health club.

Having your own gym at home will allow you to get an effective workout with very little preparation and since there’s no travel involved, it doesn’t matter what the weather outside is like or what season it is. And for those people who have trouble maintaining a regular schedule as part of their overall exercise plan, a gym at home will provide far fewer excuses as to why you can’t work out regularly
