Exercising at a gym can involve a lot of different things. You might be taking exercise classes, using free weights, using exercise machines or training with a personal trainer.
Incorporating different forms of exercise into a single complete fitness routine might yield successful and effective fitness results. However, before you start trying to take over the gym, you might want to brush up on some of the finer points of gym etiquette that will make your time at the gym more productive. A bit of proper gym etiquette can also go a long way toward making your time at the gym friendlier and less intrusive on others who also may be working out at the same time.
- The first item of gym etiquette is to dress properly. Dress in comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movements and remember to change your workout clothes regularly. Just because you have become a gym rat doesn't mean you should smell like one.
-Familiarize yourself with the gym before you get there. Ask for a tour of all of the exercise equipment available and make sure you understand the instructions for using the equipment so that you can use it safely and effectively
-Bring a gym bag packed with a towel, clothing to change into, and any toiletries that you might need.
-Clean up after yourself. Remove your perspiration from the equipment so that the next user will have a clean machine to use. If the gym supplies a disinfectant spray to clean off equipment, use it.
-Arrive at the gym ready to exercise and plan an exercise routine that will help you achieve your fitness goals. If you are performing multiple sets of repetitions, step away from the equipment when you are resting so that others can use the equipment too. Don’t be an equipment hog.
-Put it back where you got it. Be kind to the equipment and don't drop weights or let plates slam on the floor unnecessarily.
- Keep the noise down. You are working out, so a little noise here and there is acceptable, but you shouldn’t sound like a herd of groaning people all by yourself.
-Don’t talk too much. A little conversation is normal, but people go to the gym to exercise, not socialize. Try to mind your own business and don’t give others unsolicited advice.
-Leave your cell phone at home unless you truly are expecting an emergency call. You are at the gym to workout and very few people have developed muscles by lifting cell phones to their ears.
